Twickel Estate
Located near Delden in Twente, the Twickel Estate is nearly seven centuries old and spans 4,300 hectares. Its defining features include the castle, historic farmhouses, and the small-scale bocage landscape. A cultural landscape where forests of ancient oaks, heathlands, and ponds, fields, and meadows bordered by hedgerows alternate. The Umfassungsweg encompasses “the heart” of the Twickel Estate and offers a good impression of the diversity of the Twente landscape; through woods and meadows, past fields, and along the beautiful boardwalk.
Buurserzand
The name Buurserzand probably makes you expect a dry and barren area of drifting sand. In reality, this is a strikingly wet nature reserve where you can enjoy beautiful walks. A nature reserve where open heathlands, grasslands, and copses alternate. This variety makes Buurserzand a popular hiking area. In the woods, nature is allowed to take its course as much as possible. The heath is grazed by cattle from May through November. Explore this beautiful area to discover a wide variety of plants and animals, such as woodpeckers in the older oak groves, curlews on the wet heath, yellowhammers around the juniper thickets, and frogs in the ponds.
Tankenberg
The Tankenberg on the Egheria Estate is a special place. The Tankenberg is an 85.1-meter-high hill in the municipality of Losser, making it the highest hill in Overijssel. From the observation dome at the top of the hill, you can enjoy a fantastic view that stretches all the way to Germany in the distance.
Lutterzand
The Lutterzand is a unique nature reserve near De Lutte. Thanks to its varied landscape and numerous recreational opportunities for all ages, it is a wonderful area for hiking. The surroundings offer plenty of opportunities to explore diverse landscapes, from forests and heathlands to sand drifts and riverbanks.
The small river De Dinkel flows right through the nature reserve. The steep banks provide an ideal breeding ground for rare bird species, such as the sand martin, kingfisher, and grey wagtail.
In September and October, the Dinkel can also be explored by canoe. Whether you come for a leisurely walk, birdwatching, or simply to enjoy nature, there is always something new to discover in the diverse Lutterzand.
