The Van Gogh Museum houses the world’s largest collection of works by Vincent van Gogh. It comprises over 200 paintings, around 500 drawings and more than 700 letters, as well as his collection of Japanese prints.
Right in the heart of the charming centre of the old town of Ootmarsum lies a surprising
open-air museum. A beautiful park-like site with trees and water features, criss-crossed by a lovely stream. This was once the site of the gardens of the Havezathe; the Hoge Huys in Ootmarsum.
In the Middle Ages, it was a wealthy commandery of the German Order of Knights. In later times, it served as the main residence of the Imperial Counts of Heiden Hompesch of Ootmarsum, the bailiffs of Twente.
